What do the CoolGlide® Laser Hair Removal treatments feel like?

Because of its cold tip, the CoolGlide® hand piece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild stinging sensation but usually report that it is much less than with other laser hair removal devices. No local anesthesia or pain medicine is typically required; however some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic available from our office on sensitive areas like the bikini line.

How many Laser Hair Removal treatments will I need?

For permanent hair removal most areas require at least 5 treatments but the number of CoolGlide® treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors- hair thickness, the area treated and your hair’s growth cycle. Facial hair, because it is usually fine, usually requires about 9 treatments.

Not all hairs are actively growing at any one time and actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. CoolGlide® treatments work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, treatments are repeated every 4 to 8 weeks for permanent hair removal in order to eventually disable all of the hair follicles as they enter the growth phase.

What should I know before a Permanent Hair Removal treatment?

Laser hair removal is only effective on dark hair. The only effective treatment for white hair is electrolysis. Don’t pluck or wax the hair to be treated for at least 2 weeks before your treatments. For the best results shave the area to be treated as close to the time of your treatment as possible. Even though the CoolGlide® is safe for hair removal even on black skin, limiting sun exposure and self tanning products before treatments will increase the speed of hair reduction.
